On 26 November 2017;

A research seminar entitled “Special Topics in Communication Protocols and Applied Research Based Control and Scada Systems in Industrial Fields” will be held by Dr. Sherif Kamal on Nov. 26 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm in room D211.

Abstract: The seminar will cover two important research topics. The first topic related to the Mobile IP protocol and the raised problems facing that protocol. Mobile IP (or MIP) is an Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standard communications protocol that is designed to allow mobile device users to move from one network to another while maintaining a permanent IP address. The second topic will cover the applied research based Control and SCADA Systems. SCADA is an acronym for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. SCADA systems are used to monitor and control a plant or equipment in industries such as telecommunications, water and waste control, energy, oil and gas refining and transportation. These systems encompass the transfer of data between a SCADA central host computer and a number of Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and/or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and the central host and the operator terminals. A SCADA system gathers information (such as where a leak on a pipeline has occurred), transfers the information back to a central site, then alerts the home station that a leak has occurred, carrying out necessary analysis and control, such as determining if the leak is critical, and displaying the information in a logical and organized fashion.
