About the Center
To promote principles of “Green Architecture”, The Faculty of Engineering at MSA University took the initiative of establishing “MSA Center of Earth”, a research, training and service center that aims to contribute to societal and environmental problems in the construction sector in general and housing in particular. As a first stage, the Center intends to build a pilot model for a low-cost environmentally-friendly unit for various community levels. The proposed structural system is characterized by its speed and reduced reliance on reinforced concrete, and eliminates many steps in the construction and finishing stages due to the use of Lego-like interlocking compressed earth bricks. In a practical step, the hydraulic press machine “Eco Brava” has been imported from Brazil and the center’s team was trained to operate it. Bricks were successfully produced using the campus’s sandy soil, available also all around Egypt.
